Deborah Crane

Deborah Crane is a seasoned and creative Voice Movement Therapist.  She maintains a safe container for the exploration of the voice and psyche and has an intuitive and precise sense of when to be challenging and when to be gentle and supportive of her clients’ process.  She has over twenty years of experience helping people overcome obstacles to their well-being.  Deborah is a registered voice movement therapist (VMTR), having completed her training in Voice Movement Therapy with VMT founder, Paul Newham, in 1999.

Deborah was brought up in a family with two sisters who were several years older.  As a result she became used to the feeling of ‘not having a voice’ in the conversation.  Her childhood ambition, to be able to sing just like Julie Andrews, led to a series of traditional voice lessons.  While at college one voice teacher told her that she would never be good enough to perform.  Unable to give up the dream she continued to search for a voice teacher that would be ‘the one’.  Although each was helpful in some ways, none led to the embodied voice she intuitively knew was possible.  Through her training in Voice Movement Therapy Deborah has reclaimed both her ability to ‘be heard’ and a singing voice with power, range and flexibility that she never dreamed possible.

Having reclaimed her creative self, she completed her M.A. in Theatre in 2005 and has performed in cabaret and musical theatre.  Deborah has over twenty years experience in the behavioral health field and has maintained a private practice in Voice Movement Therapy for over ten years.

Deborah teaches an Introduction to Voice Movement Therapy course through the Continuing Education program at Lesley University.  She offers Creative VoiceWork in a collaboration with the Women’s Leadership Program at Family Therapy Boston in Watertown, MA.  She offers Creative VoiceWork at the Healing Garden in Harvard, MA and at the Women’s Well in Concord, MA.  Deborah recently opened Creating Life Studio in Littleton, MA where she offers individual and group sessions in Creative VoiceWork and collaborates with other therapeutic professionals.
